Frequently Asked Questions

What are binaural beats?

A binaural beat is an auditory illusion. When each ear hears a slightly different frequency through stereo headphones, your brain perceives a third tone equal to the difference between them. Play 200 Hz in one ear and 210 Hz in the other and you hear a 10 Hz beat, which sits in the alpha band linked to relaxed focus.

How do I find my ideal frequency?

Pick your goal in the Frequency Finder above and it suggests evidence-based bands to try. As a rough guide: delta (1-4 Hz) for deep sleep, theta (4-8 Hz) for meditation, alpha (8-13 Hz) for relaxed focus, and beta (14-30 Hz) for alertness.

Do I need headphones for these tools?

Only the Binaural Beat Generator truly needs stereo headphones, since the effect depends on each ear getting a different frequency. The other tools work on any speakers, though headphones help. Not sure your stereo is working? Run the Headphone Check first.
